Pre-and Post-Holi Skin & Hair Care Tips to Help You Have a Fun-filled Holi

Hair Care Tips

Holi is India’s most enjoyable celebration. The flood of hues appears to be beautiful, but what follows can be dreadful. While this festival of colour brings happiness and joy, the harsh colours can also adversely affect your skin and hair.

There are many more products to consider in addition to using the best vitamin C sunscreen for sun protection. Follow these pre-Holi and post-Holi skincare tips to keep your skin looking fabulous even after the festivities are over.

Prepping Skin – Pre-Holi Skin Care Tips

#1 Don’t Use any Products with Active Ingredients

The day before the festival, avoid any skin treatments. If your bedtime regimen includes retinol or other active ingredients, avoid it for a day since artificial colours might aggravate allergies. A week before Holi, avoid facials, cleaning, and even threading.

#2 Don’t Forget Your SPF

Wearing sunscreen at all times is one of the most crucial pre-Holi skincare advice. Colours and water aren’t the only things that might damage your skin; harmful UV rays are also factors. Protect your skin from sun damage with Vitamin C sunscreen with SPF 50. It comes with the anti-oxidant power of Vitamin C that works on pigmentation and dark spots. Look for matte gel constituency to avoid white cast.

#3 Don’t Forget Oiling

Coat your skin with thick oil to prevent colours from leaving a mark on your face and body. It not only hydrates your skin but also acts as a barrier between it and the colour, dirt. If you have dry skin, use ordinary coconut or olive oil; use almond oil if you have acne-prone skin.

Pro-Tip

  • Before applying oil and sunscreen, gently massage ice cubes on your face. This extra step will aid in blocking the open pores on your skin, let the product stay on your skin longer, and reduce acne.
  • To avoid colour stains, paint your nails with a dark colour.
  • Apply petroleum jelly on your lips, ears, eyelids, and even nails the night before and on the day of Holi to moisturise the outer layer of your skin and protect it from harsh colours.

Protecting Skin – Post-Holi Skin Care Tips

#1 Cleanse, Tone, and Moisturise

For removing those tough colour stains from your face, use the double cleansing method. Begin by cleansing with a milk-based cleanser or alcohol-free micellar cleansing water to eliminate impurities from your skin gently. Then, follow with a foamy face wash to unclog pores and remove any remaining colours. Apply a mild toner and a nourishing moisturiser.

#2 Pamper Yourself

Another post-Holi skincare recommendation is to treat yourself to a good pampering session with an exfoliating scrub and moisturising sheet mask. Exfoliate the skin with a mild scrub, preferably one with walnut, as it is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids that help protect and heal the skin from sun damage. Now use a de-tan serum face mask to revitalise your skin.

How To Save Your Hair From Holi Colours

  • The night before, thoroughly nourish your scalp with oil.
  • Use a leave-in conditioner to create a barrier between the chemicals and your hair.
  • Do not shampoo; the greasier your hair, the less likely the colour will penetrate your scalp.

How To Clean Your Scalp Post Holi

  • Before you wash your hair, apply jojoba or coconut oil to it.
  • Use a mild herbal hair shampoo to wash and condition your hair. Herbal hair shampoo keeps hair smooth and has no adverse side effects.

That is our guide on protecting your hair and skin (don’t forget the vitamin c sunscreen) during Holi. Now you’re all safe and set to enjoy Holi!
