Tips for Surviving Long Flight Haul

Traveling can sometimes be a nightmare, from delays to lost luggage to exorbitant fees for those who decide to check their bags instead. But nothing is worse than a long flight across the Atlantic ocean in case you have no access to NFL expert picks to spend your time.

Sometimes you need to get away and travel, but that might mean you must suffer through a long flight. Whether it’s for a vacation or work, these tips will help you survive your next long flight.

Get Comfy

If you’re lucky enough to have a long flight ahead, it can be tempting to forgo packing anything other than your carry-on. But even if it’s just for comfort, some items should make their way into your luggage.

If your seatmate has been kind enough to let you use their armrest, then using one as a pillow is fine. But if not, bring along an inflatable neck pillow or two where you can relax as you check NFL predictions and relax.

The hard plastic ones aren’t great for sleeping on because they’re uncomfortable and don’t fold enough for storage in a bag.

If you would rather sleep with something heavier and less portable, consider purchasing a soft-form airplane blanket. One with fleece fabric on one side feels warm against your skin while being light enough not to disrupt anyone around you!

Connect with Other Travelers

Keeping yourself occupied is essential to stay calm during a long flight. This is why bringing along a good book or documentary, as well as some activities that are fun and engaging, is a good idea.

Connecting with other people is one way to ensure you are not alone on your flight. Even if you don’t feel like talking, try conversing with the person sitting next to you as you exchange news about NFL picks or any topic that you both have in common.

It may seem awkward at first, but it will help pass the time and take your mind off the fact that you are sitting in a metal tube for hours on end!

Drink Water

You may have heard that you should drink a lot of water on a plane, but how much is enough? The Mayo Clinic recommends drinking at least 6 to 8 cups(1.5 to 2 liters) of fluids daily while traveling. If you’re unsure how much fluid you should be consuming, try keeping track of your water intake the day before your flight.

If possible, bring your water bottle with you so it can hold more than one serving at once. Having your bottle will save time and hassle from constantly asking flight attendants for refills. It would help if you also considered packing some healthy fruits and liquids.

Snack Smart

Don’t overeat. It’s tempting to indulge in a big breakfast before your flight, but it may not be the best idea. Many airlines don’t offer food on the way to your destination; you won’t want to fill up before you get there.

Bring healthy snacks that will keep you full and energized until meal time. You should skip the soda/alcohol/coffee if possible. If you can avoid consuming caffeine on a long flight, do so for the sake of sleeping well during those long hours.

A cup of tea or coffee may help with jet lag once arriving at your destination, but avoid sugary soft drinks as these will only make you thirstier.

Listen to Music

Music is a great distraction. You can zone out, listen to your favorite band or artist, and get lost in the music for hours.

You can listen to albums or playlists from your phone via headphones or the airplane’s in-flight entertainment center. Reading a book as you listen to music can keep you distracted and entertained for longer.

Music calms your nerves down on the flight, and you are unlikely to feel anxious or bored while listening to your favorite tunes. The best part about listening to music on a flight is that you don’t have to turn it off when you land!

Conclusion

Long flights can be daunting and exhausting not only to your body but also to the mind. However, these tips can help you prepare for your next long-haul flight.

The best advice while traveling on a flight is to relax and enjoy your flight as much as possible. Stay hydrated and don’t eat food on board. The journey is half the fun!
